The first record of Caretta caretta nest at Çanakkale Beach.

Residents noticed the Caretta caretta hatchlings on the beach in Çanakkale on 10th of October. DEKUM was informed through the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks Çanakkale Branch. The expert examined the nest and released the hatchlings into the sea, and the information about the nest was recorded.

As it is known, Marine turtles use various beaches from Muğla to Hatay province. Although recent records show that they nested sporadically in İzmir Kuşadası Doğanbey and İzmir Urla, no information about nesting was found in this far north. It was known that sea turtles used northern Aegean coasts for feeding purposes. However, the fact that this beach was registered for the first time shows that other areas that remain untouched can also be used for nesting purposes.
